Federal, State, and private conservation programs like the Conservation Reserve Program, Partners for Fish and Wildlife, and DU’s Habitat Stewardship Program can provide cost-share and technical assistance when delivering habitat improvements. The key is knowing what programs exist in your area, what the benefits are of the program and knowing their restrictions. Orion staff were fully involved with the development and implementation of the nations first Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program which was launched in Maryland in 1997. Working immanently with that program provided us with the skills to navigate the maze of programs and help landowners pick which, if any conservation programs are right for their farm or hunting property.
